Mercato“Make it fun, inspiring, bold, abstract even. Yes abstract, I like it” - words from Mercato owner and son of its migrant founders, John, or “Johnny” as his friends in the bar call him.

The excitement in the brief matched the energy felt when walking into this diorama of Italian living, who have shared the best of Italian food, wine and experiences with Adelaide for over 50 years. Entering a new half-century of life, we took inspiration from Italian shop fronts, wood type tradition and vintage Strega/Campari aperitif posters to further develop a brand that honours the authenticity of Italian hospitality and the no-nonsense passion Mercato’s owners, staff, and outrageously loyal customers have for “the true experience.”
Starting with brand marks highlighting key identity pillars, and a voice that demonstrates the bold personality of the retail shop/restaurant/catch-up spot hybrid, we were able to position the brand as a joyful, multifaceted and proud market of Italian products and culture.
